If you're dubious about Android's pattern lock ability to safeguard the contents of your?phone or tablet, know this: it has recently proven to be a tough nut to crack even for the FBI. The feds had to serve Google a warrant to unlock the phone of a pimp suspected of violating his parole.

The suspect, Dante Dears, used to run an operation in San Diego called Pimpin' Hoes Daily (PHD) until he was convicted and locked up in 2005. When he got out in 2009, authorities tethered him to a?GPS monitor so he couldn't go on the streets to continue what he used to do. But Dears found a way to outwit his parole officers ? he used an Android phone to run his business from the comforts of his own home.

The FBI, having suspected that he's been behind a prostitution ring all this time even without leaving his house, sent a source to monitor his actions. In spite of the fact that the source had seen him using the phone in his house for as long as six hours at a time, Dears denied that the phone was his. He refused to draw the pattern needed to go through Android's security measure, even though his parole conditions stated that he couldn't lock any of his digital files.

Courtney Love is starting a?war with The Muppets now? The provocative lead singer of Hole, widow of deceased Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain, reportedly is preparing to battle Kermit, Miss Piggy and their affiliates for allegedly using the rock band?s classic hit, ?Smells Like Teen Spirit,??in their 2011 film release, ?The Muppets.?

According to TMZ, Love has control over use of Cobain?s music for commercial purposes, and never gave approval for inclusion in the movie.

It may not be a?slam-dunk case?for the singer, however. The report also mentions Love sold a portion of her rights, along with the power to distribute Nirvana's catalog,?to music publisher Primary Wave Music.

Love held her rights to the Nirvana catalog tightly since Cobain?s death in 1994, yet her own financial woes have significantly loosened up her stance. In 2006, she sold 25 percent of the work for $50 million, and MSN reports that in 2011, she was considering selling off the remainder" after becoming convinced the royalty payments she receives are ?cursed.??

The value of the remaining catalog is estimated to be worth $162 million.

Nevertheless, the rocker?s vengeance on the Muppets may not be the best use of her time and legal fees.?Surviving Nirvana members?Dave Grohl and Krist Novoselic evidently both gave their blessings to the production. Love has gone to court with them in the past over use of previously unreleased Nirvana material, but settled.

And it appears that the world is on the side of The Muppets.

Cubit Adopts Open Source Model | Virtual-Strategy Magazine

He describes the move to open source as a call to action for the African ICT industry: ?This release enables and empowers IT companies and programmers to avoid patent costs and provides the platform for anyone to become a major player in the ERP space. At the very least it enables massive savings from not having to purchase expensive, annually licensed software while at the same time boosting software development on the African continent.

?It also avails the African ICT sector of the opportunity to derive a revenue stream from clients located anywhere in the world,? explains Coetzee.

Under the proprietary software model, many companies do not own their own business software and likewise do not have access to the source code for the software at the core of their businesses. That all changes with Accounting-123.com because any business now has the ability and right to own their software without having to fork out rapacious licensing fees per user, per seat or per hour to large multinational conglomerates.

Coetzee expects the project to be forked (split) frequently and anticipates that, eventually, there may be hundreds of different software brands, systems and products derived, from the Accounting-123.com core.

?The main problem with cross-border accounting software has always been the differing tax, legislative and accounting regimes adopted in different countries. This has, until now, inhibited the reach of a single open source accounting system over international borders.
